[solved]Shoebox Operating Temperatures

Thanks guys. The PC 6 gallon it is. Besides a couple of HF filters I should be good with the stuff I have from Joe. I picked up a maintenance kit to start. I read the horror stories about heat and have a couple of small fans and will pull the cover.

Can this thing operate in cool/cold temps in a very clean large garage?


RC - i also have a buddy that is eventually moving with his wife (who is from there) to the Phillipines in a few years. I had no idea so many families do that.

I think you'll be real happy with the PC compressor.

And, by the by, I'm looking for some good filters myself.

But in answer to your question about operating temperatures I can't seem to find anything definitive on the subject SO I made a post to The Shoebox Forum at www.shoeboxcompressor.com about it. They are pretty good about getting back to a legit post so we should have an answer pretty soon. And, now that you've asked I think I'm curious to know both limits: Heat & cold.

If you are working with Joe then could you do me a favor? Think you could send him a pic of what Roach has set up there? I want that "T" set up. I'd rather buy through him and know what I'm getting and have it premade than to jump out on my own and buy a bunch of stuff that may or may not work like I want it too. The site that Roach offered is really good but I'm a bit intimidated by all that is offered there. I'm pretty good at that sort but, well, I'll feel better with someone like Joe that knows what he's doing than me, the laymen, paying for mistakes that I don't have to endure. I sent him a diagram but he's like REALLY busy and I'm not sure I am being clear in what I want but that pic would do wonders. Too, I'd much rather work with him and stay in our AG circles if I can. I just don't know if my small time window will let me wait.

Where you gonna get your filtering? The condensation filters? What type?

I had a pretty good shock the first time I dumped my first stage compressor tank: Man, there was a LOT of pure water in the bottom and that translates to a lot of water through the entire system. I can find the post if I have to but there is one at the Shoebox Forum that looked to be about a foot or more long, yellow and about a few inches wide. It looked like it would do the trick. But I can't find it any place now. Harbor Freight in my neck of the woods isn't carrying them any more----and I did check. I think one of the things I liked about it was that it was very affordable.

Cold down to freezing should be ok but we never tested it. We have had cylinders run up to about 175 F without problems.

But on the pressure I'm runing I'm also going to try to run two Shoeboxes off the one compressor. It should run the PC compressor more but also the PC should handle the load. Can't wait to see how it works!

The Shoebox just arrived. My garage doesn't really get below freezing when the door is closed south of St. Louis.

If you have a room in your house, sort of like a man cave, you can run both the PC [and] the Shoebox shutting the door to that room. That's what I do. It can't be hardly heard, except for when the PC kicks on for about 30 seconds or so and even that's not loud in our house behind a closed door. Just a thought. Works for me. Too, I keep all my AG stuff in that room so it makes it all pretty handy to have everything in one place. May not work for others but does for me.

But for sure, even a very small space heater would raise the temperature enough to stay above freezing, right? And yea, I do know just how cold it can get up there in a cold snap.

I think I saw on one of those National Geo shows where they actually used a candle in an igloo to stay above freezing in the great white north some place!

I guess my wife's utility room will work too. She will love that stuff in there. My Harbor Freight has plenty of those dryers in stock and a coiled hose and our Home Depot has the PG Compressor for $109. My wife is picking the stuff up on the way home.

On the burn mark I would just stay clear while its pumping. I doubt you have a burn mark.

Nah, didn't have a burn mark. But the shadow sure made it look like that and neither my wife or me could figure it out upon first glance. It was just shadow!

Be careful about commandeering room with the wife's territorial marks: We'd hate to come and get you and your pieces from the floor. But if we do, I've got first dibs on your new Shoebox!

You know I just saw your note about me sending Joe a picture. Thats what I get for emailing when I am supposed to be working. I bought stuff from Joe about 6 months ago.

I just bought stuff from him yesterday.

I got a two liner for the two Shoebox thing. Haven't tried it yet or know how it will work out. Have to wait and see. he sent me a picture but I'm not sure if that one will replace my current gauge and if I do that what I'll have to do to just switch from Shoebox to AG.

It'll all work out: Just takes time.

I'd been dickering with getting something for a long time but every time I'd get ready Murphy would steel my funds. I bit the bullet and went ahead and signed the check this time [and] actually sent it off, by Jove!

Don't know when it will be here. Soon I hope. I've got to take off for Florida soon and I won't be able to fiddle with it slightly before nor after that.

Thank god for Tom (ORairgunner) while all that's going down. Great guy and I wouldn't be able to hold all this together without his help.

But thanks anyway. I know if you'd of saw it you'd of taken it to task . . .why I said don't worry about it 'cause we got the job done, as it were.
