    .22 marauder/New Tuner Empty .22 marauder/New Tuner

    Post by be4meliz Thu Sep 29, 2011 3:44 pm

Got my .22 m-rod from March 2010 and spent many hours shooting and tuning it-it was one of the few that liked Jsb's-then fell off rest and bent barrel- I replaced it and new barrel was very pellet picky and never quite achieved the accuracy I was looking for- sent it to my friend Mike@ Citrus Airguns and he totally stripped it down and rebuilt it- It now sports a 24 L/W barrel(crowned and polished) an extended shroud along with custom stripper and baffles- he added a heavier hammer spring, poly ported the transfer, custom worked the valve and added a 30" custom air tube and tuned for 15.9 Jsb's and 21.14 Kodiaks. With his tune, i only have to adjust the spring travel to lower or raise velocity and leave the other 2 adjustments alone(meter screw and hammer spring)
I turned it down a bit for the Jsb's (900- 920) and have gotten 60-70 shots with a nice bell curve and not much variation and am able to use the full 3000psi fill without valve lock.
Here's a few video's showing what it can do-was shooting Kodiaks @900 fps. in target video- the other one is him while tuning.

    Nice post!

But in reference to off site links you may want to put a little note in there that the last two links are sign in only web sites (member sign in or create an account to view link).

We like to see great info shared but not all of us are as familiar with the web as the next air gun brother and it would benefit the reader to understand that the link is not broken and, is, in fact, working correctly.

But great post just the same!

I noticed too that the POI was the same on the spinner too: Off to the right and down a tad. You going to adjust that out or just leave it?

Have you put it on a chrony yet? Numbers? FPS & FPE?

    Details!

Highly interested and thanks for the great post!

Sorry about the 2 links-didn't realize when i tested them that I stay signed in "oops"
I intentionally dropped poi in order to catch pellets in flight as my crosshairs tend to block them. And you sir, have a great eye for details- I was curious to see who caught that. Those were 21gr Kodiaks @ 900 fps-plays havoc on my poor target box-went thru the electrician putt and 2 pieces oh 3/4 " plywood along time ago- my other one has putty and 1/8" steel plate behind that and still shot thru that twice with 62 gr. slugs with my.25 Condor

We don't mind the links. Anything good info is welcome here, I'm sure. Just kind of threw me and I, brother, am not a stranger to IT stuff and thought, hey, wait a minute! Gonna get questions about that for sure. I may even check out the site myself one day when I get more time. Thanks for the previously unknown site though! Drinking Beer

Yea, a lot of people do that POI shift for that reason.

A 21 grain pellet at 900 FPS is 37.78 FPE at the muzzle and at 64 yards is 22.548. That's like a 4 inch drop at POI and pretty good to hit at that distance with enough FPE to still transfer some energy (do some damage!).

I'm waiting on some permissions before I post about one of my favorite .22s. It's doing some good numbers as well. Maybe a little better? Stay tuned and find out!

Good bunch of guys over there and cover a lot of topics and they won't have issues linking up here which is what its all about to me -learning and passing on the knowledge-it just amazes me the difference of attitude on different forums-The Yellow(kinda like hard core Baptist(no drinking or dancing) the TalonTunes Forum(more like a Bikerbar-anything goes and the rest which are pretty laid back.So where's this Hot .22(i'll put it up against my extreme valve Condor with some Eujins @ 1060fps LOL

Seems you've got it all worked out. The Independent just takes a different approach to the same end goal.

We don't think we are any better, or worse for that matter, than the other major AG forums but, rather, instead, just another flavor, another spice, if you will . . . and alternative, to what is already out there. They've all got their strong points and we hope we do too. We won't bash them for anything and what you write, to me, is an honest opinon so it's all good.

But good on that other site: We'll share anything, any link, any off site info that benefits the Air Gunner or Archer. Information should be free and given without reserve. However, I fully understand a site reserving membership requirements to reap a benefit of the site if the site has an overhead of some sort. A drawing is a good example to me. It does cost a little money for me to maintain this site and I don't bug our members for donations but it would be nice if we got some! Hint, hint to all out there! (I just couldn't resist so you guys should forgive the salesman in me Smile

But on to the numbers: I'd like to see the numbers and an FPE Calc against your Condor.

I've got this personal project I'm working on about my favorite two .22s. As soon as the weather clears some and I have more time (time, as Tony of the Talon once told me, "What's that?" as if it were an elusive creature and I do agree but it cracked me up at the time the way he said it like so matter of factually--guys got a great sense of humor, for sure) I'm going to put my two, after some tricking, up to the bench and pull off some numbers. I've had these two for a while now, long enough to make good friends with them and find out what they like in their diet so it should be interesting. I hope you'll keep watch to see and converse about it when I do that "round to it" thing and finally get off my large arse and get it done.

Then I want to sign in umder my member name and compete with you with my two best .22's. He, he! Hey, there is something to be said about bragging rights, correct?

Nice posts, brother. Even, fair, sharing. Like your style. Hope to see more of them.

    Cheers! .22 marauder/New Tuner 1497655283

Not one to let a challenge go unanswered, I do have to make an attempt at responding here so I am. But I don't have my numbers or recent bench tests in front of me and two of my best have since been modified.

But on range, I can go out to just about 40 yards. Could go more but that's all the room I have to call my own. I'll get up with you on FPE, Bar count, FPS, number of shots, and, of course, accuracy. FPE to hell and back isn't any good without the latter. Right?

I'm thinking I should get my other one back from the gun doctor, what, Monday or Tuesday of next week? Then I'll need a few days (and prayers of no rain and steady if no wind at all) to get it all together.

Like that gizmo you use to see through the sites. What is it? How's it work? Brand name? Easy or hard on the pocket?

I may not be able to post for a while: I have some family business to attend but I'll get back, even if late, better than never.

Have same camera as Ted In Madison- Casio 150~ $189 @ Cometa camera.com & orion telescope mount(e-bay)~ $50
shoots slo-mo up to 1000frames per sec(240 works best)
still working on it for best results- want to see some good ones -go to Teds'Holdover.com Have to actually sight thru LCD on camera- makes accuracy a bitch as I have to come off stock completely he uses an extended rail so he can slife scope way forward, which I cannot- Great for checking pellet flight-you wou be amazed to see what some supposidly accurate pellets do with wind or too much velocity LOL

I have Ted's setup too but different editing software and the fancy 20x 1/2 mil dot Hawke reticle too. It works great at 240 fps and then I slow things down even further with the editing software. I am afraid to publish game impacts though in public. The impact on larger game like rabbits and opossums is even more graphic than just birds with higher fpe like my 100 fpe Condor and 62 grain Surefires. The hydrostatic shock is something.

I was just about to get this but it is pricer... It is very robust in features.

    be4meliz:

HEY, HEY, HEY! I got my other hot 22 back yesterday!

Okay, I did a no-no: I'm in the dog house for it but not for what I thought I'd be. I went ahead and bought a DB meter. But when she checked the account it was "I've got coupons for Amazon!"

Anyway, now that I've got my other one back I'm out of bullets for the one just recently modified.

Today I'm ordering more for it. They should be here by the end of the week or first part of next. But I can start on the first one today.

What criteria should we make official on this "put up against" contest?

    My suggestions are as follows:

    Loudness
    Weight
    FPS
    FPE
    Number of shots
Of course, accuracy A: distance B: FPE at distance and POI
Bling effect (cosmetic, yea, but hey, it's still bragging rights)
    Uniqueness
    After market mods
Distance: I can only go up to 40 yards. I have taken game at more but that will have to be a trust issue or not listed beyond 40.
Unless you have more or object to the above?

I can't do the cam thing that you can---yet! But one day I will be able to. So, I'll have to post, like you did, my targets.

Now, to compare them, or, rather, what to compare them to? I think your two mentioned above would work in this case.

Now, there is one criteria that should be mentioned I can't compete in and that is the fact of American made or not. That one is priceless and I just can't compete in that particular arena for that one. But, just so you know, I put a lot of stock into anything American made. After all, I'm true blue home born red blooded American Vet myself so... well, there you go. But I have my reasons for buying what I did that just wasn't available in American factories.

    So, we on or what?

I'll split this topic off and leave a shadow here and we can get this going.

You ready? I'll start with my first one today if you are!
