Well this was a surprise.
I bought this mold off Ebay for around $40.00 delivered, it is the classic Maxiball that is used in muzzle loaders. I had no idea what the as cast diameter would be, I hoped it would not be .458. The first bullets dropped from the mold at .454 and 240 grains when cast of 20-1.
I sized them to .452 and moly lubed them, then filled to 4000 PSI and shot them for accuracy at 35 yards and shot them over the chrony at the same time.
The velocity was 1113 which is 660 FPE, and two shot groups from a single fill went into a little over 1/2 inch at 35 yards.
With a 85 yard zero, I have a 50 yard trajectory height of 2.2 and a 100 yard drop of 2.26 inches, where it still retains 505 FPE.
I still need to do some range work to see how this stacks up against my Leupold VXII 3x9's Long Range duplex reticle, but I think I will be close to 150 yards with the bottom mildot at 4 or 5 power.
