First let me acquaint you with me and my situation. I am a life time shooter and ditto air gun shooter. Shooting and hunting are a passion for me.

Second, I am 64 years old and disabled. Not to where I can not do anything but enough it affects my choice of equipment, and I can no longer go on long all day hunts. Only short distances for a couple of hours most.

Also since I am on SS disability, my money supply is severely limited and becoming MORE limited as my wife lost her job and don't want to work any more. That's what I (and all you old farts looking for a young woman) get for marrying a woman 8 years younger than me.

When I was younger and worked I made tons of money and bought a bunch of air guns. Some were hardly shot and most were not scoped till I started hunting with them. I still have a few half dozen or so not scoped.

So these days my scope purchases are limited to the mid range moderate priced scopes. Like say a 4 X 16 X 50 Leapers AO IR or 4 X 12's or 3 X 9's all similar with ao and usually IR.

These are totally servicable and work fine except for the few I got defective from the factory. They are not like top of the line $600 - $1000 and unless I win several many millions in the state lottery never will be!

These guns serve my purpose well, which is plinking and huntion. When I can afford the equipment needed to compete at national and international levels in the different match disciplines then I will change my scope selection. Right now, thankfully Leapers, Center Point, Sunpoint and Tasco meet my needs.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with your selection of scope or your situation in life.

I personally can't get around as well as you. I'm not in the "hours" range: I' in the "minutes" range on my ability to walk and most of the time I'm in an electric wheelchair and that last is a MUST if I leave the house to go anywhere but a very short jaunt around the vicinity of my house but honestly, I couldn't tell you how much a carton of eggs cost since I have not been able to buy groceries for many years---but if I do go out to the Wind Dixie, or Lowes or someplace like that, I'd better hope my chair is charged. If not, I can’t go. I can't even make it longer than to cook two eggs, some grits and some sausage on the stove. By that time I'm in so much pain that I might not be able to eat the food I just cooked before it gets cold for having to lay down. So, without my chair, I would have to have more than the care taker my wife actually is for me.

But I can walk a little and it used to be that I'd given up, PCP4me. I have a lot of military service issues, health issues, and getting off that couch or easy chair was simply not worth it.

Then, one day, my wife came in blazing mad about someone stealing her tomatoes from her garden. She works 5.5 days a week, takes care of me, does the house chores and is a full time house wife just as if she didn't work. What days she has off is spent running errands for the household and chores like doing the laundry. This leaves her very little personal time and that garden; that garden my friend, was her Zen thing that kept her sane.

We figured out it was the squirrels. It's another story I'll gladly tell one day. But they got so bad that she totally gave up on her garden for the season. She'd never given into anything as long as I've known her and yea, she cried about it.

But enter in the world of Air Guns. I promised her I'd get the squirrels. First, I tried trapping them but they got trap smart in ONE day. So I ordered a Pellet Gun. I actually bought a Crossman Titan with a G1 stock from a friend and then later got my Walther Falcon. I'd actually been ordered to pick up a "hobby" for "therapy" by my doctors. But I did, I got started and I've been hooked since.

Air Guns literally saved my life. Oh, I could go on and on about how bad it was, or how bad it is now and how bad I know it will get one day, but I've got a reason now to stand while I can, push when it hurts a few times a day and use my hobby for therapy as suggested. If not for Air Guns, a little thing called the Shoebox and an overpopulation of squirrels; I’d still be on my backside a lot more than I am if not 40 pounds heavier.

The problem I have is that there is no place around my house to shoot firearms and I’m probably not ever going to be able to go to a place that I can even though I hold on to the dream, that, one day, I can. That’s how Air Guns came in. We are county zoned and that puts us in a different zoning category. Just as Air Guns is a different category from firearms with a completely different set of rules to abide at home and on the internet. Air Guns don’t fall under the BATF, but Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms do and you can read about this at Q: Does the ATF regulate the sale and possession of air guns? Is an air gun classified as a “firearm” under Federal law? This is why I we also don’t get into much firearms except to compare them to Air Guns here at www.airgunsinc.org.

So I do empathize with you, PCP4me. I hope you can see that in all the somberness I can muster.

But one thing I have to note, all those are not only great scopes as far as I’m concerned, but most of them are rated for Springers as well. Air Gun rated has to be extra tough and all of mine are. My Hawk Sindwinder is the most expensive unit I have at just over $300 when I first bought it with a tax return. The rest of them are much less, I can promise you. My strongest scope is a 4x16-56 AO Powerclass for a couple of C notes. I love that scope and I can really reach out and touch something with it.

my situation is almost exactly the same as PCP4me...i am older, though I'll be 70 on my next b'day...YIKES! affraid

i still shoot with 'irons' when and wherever i am able to. (U.S. Army trained) in fact, i use irons on my M4 Carbine but i also have optics if i want to shoot precision. Smile

both have their definite advantages and dis-advantages.

i hunt and shoot AG's, powder burners and archery with, and without, sights and with, and without, scopes.

i enjoy all that they all have to offer but i think what appeals to most about open/iron sights is the weight topside and adjusting factors; i have a hard time carrying a 14 lb rifle about... Sad

longer distances do, indeed, require more precise aiming devices, but that still falls under the category of being able to better SEE the target; it's up to the rifleman to HIT the target at ANY range with any sighting mechanism. in other words: "If your shooting form ain't up to snuff", you ain't gonna hit it...come what may... Suspect No Smile
